Virgin Polystyrene Granule Products are inevitable part of many industries and production houses.

Polystyrene Granule is the raw form of virgin PS (polystyrene) material. It is a versatile synthetic plastic made from styrene.  It can be found in two main forms: solid and foamed.  Solid polystyrene is known for being clear, hard, and brittle.  It’s a very affordable material by weight, but it’s not ideal for applications that require a strong barrier against oxygen or water vapor due to its low melting point.

What is Polystyrene?

Polystyrene is a synthetic polymer from styrene monomers.  This material comes in both solid and foamed forms, each with unique properties.  It has another term – Common and Affordable Plastic.

Properties of Solid Polystyrene : Solid polystyrene is a popular choice for many products because it is:

• Clear and hard: This makes it suitable for items where transparency and rigidity are important.
• Brittle: It can break or crack under stress.
• Inexpensive: Its low cost per unit weight makes it a budget-friendly option for manufacturers.
• Low melting point: This property means it can’t use in high-heat applications.
• Poor barrier: It’s not effective at blocking oxygen or water vapor, making it unsuitable for certain packaging needs.

Different Types of Virgin Polystyrene Granule Products

There are three different types of polystyrene products and raw materials are there.  They are as follows:

1. General Purpose Polystyrene – GPPS
2. High Impact Polystyrene – HIPS
3. Expanded Polystyrene – EPS

Usages of Polystyrene

Mainly two types of applications are there in all three above types:  Injection molding and Thermoforming.  Depending upon requirement of products, categories will change and following are main products from these three types:
